Behavioral Health Promotion

Behavioral Health encompasses Mental Health and Substance Use. It is important to view health through both of these lenses, as there is often a relationship between the two components. DAET’s strategies are Promotion and Prevention focused, but we work closely with community partners who provide Treatment and Recovery services. Our strong collaborations allow us to better serve Ashland through information sharing and support.

SAMHSA’s Behavioral Health Continuum is used by many prevention coalitions to illustrate the relationship between the continuum sections.

Promotion strategies create environments and conditions that support behavioral health & resiliency, and reinforce the entire continuum of behavioral health services.

Prevention strategies are implemented prior to the onset of a mental health or substance use disorder to prevent or reduce the risk of a behavioral health problem, such as underage alcohol or other drug use, or prescription drug misuse.

  • Universal Strategies target the General population
  • Indicated Strategies target individuals already exhibiting or engaged in risky behaviors
  • Selective Strategies target individual who are at Higher-than-average risk

Treatment services are for people diagnosed with substance use or other behavioral health disorder.

Recovery services support individuals’ abilities to live productive lives in the community and can often help with abstinence.
