Prevention

Primary prevention is any type of prevention activity that is used before a negative health outcome occurs. Decisions at Every Turn addresses youth substance use through primary prevention strategies and activities to stop substance use before it starts. Primary prevention activities may include education on the risks of substance use, building awareness on the actions individuals can take to protect themselves, or environmental strategies, such as the establishment of policies that prevent and limit access to substances by youth and adults. As a coalition focused on primary prevention, we believe that in the long term primary prevention has the most value to help build and maintain healthier, safer, and happier communities.
