Primary Prevention

Primary Prevention is a strategic approach of programs and activities that are used before a negative health outcome occurs. DAET seeks to cultivate positive outcomes for youth and prioritizes the use of primary prevention principles to maximize youth well-being.

Primary Prevention:

  • Prevents or delays risky/unhealthy behaviors
  • Utilizes a mix of science-based strategies
  • Seeks to address attitude or behavioral change
  • Protects across all youth substances
  • Protects against all risk behaviors
